Bakırköy 57th Criminal Court of First Instance sentenced former AKUT Chairman Nasuh Mahruki, who was on trial over a July 15 social media post, to 1 year and 3 months in prison, suspended the announcement of the verdict, and ordered the release of Mahruki, who had been in detention for about two months.
The court placed Mahruki under a 5-year probation period and deducted the time spent in custody and detention from his sentence. In his defense, Mahruki said having 571,000 followers could not be a criminal element, and that his post did not contain the words 'theater' or 'game'. The prosecutor had requested that he remain in custody.
