Weather balloons launched twice daily for forecasts in Erzurum

The 12th Regional Directorate of Meteorology releases balloons daily at 15:00 and 03:00 for Erzurum, Erzincan, Bayburt, and Ardahan forecasts; ascending to 35-40 kilometers, they gather temperature, humidity, pressure, and wind data. The measurement is conducted at 9 points across Türkiye.

Sensors under the balloons, inflated with hydrogen or helium, transmit data instantly via GPS. Regional Forecast and Warning Center Officer Ömer Oğuzhan Arabacı said that upper atmosphere data are regularly monitored in addition to forecasts.
