In an interview with T24, New Party Chairman Özgür Özel said, "They will do everything so Mayor Ekrem does not run. In this case, Mansur Yavaş's candidacy is a very important option," adding that they "have not declared anyone as anyone's backup."
Özel said he saw no issue with Yavaş's meeting with Erdoğan, stating the visit aimed to find resources for major projects. He described these assessments as a lack of self-confidence. He reiterated the YENİ Party's goal of coming to power with 50+1 and the presidency with 60+1.
