With the discount effective from September 19, diesel prices dropped to 96.31 lira per litre in Istanbul, 97.41 lira in Ankara, and 97.71 lira in Izmir. The price had risen above 100 lira for the first time after two increases of 6.62 and 4.62 lira earlier in the week; gasoline prices were left unchanged.
The discount came as the diesel ton price fell to $1,484 after tensions in the Middle East. Industry sources reported that ÖTV would be increased in October, November, and December and that no price below 100 lira seemed possible. Brent crude oil was trading at $103.77, down 1 percent.
