Education Minister Yusuf Tekin said on a television broadcast that they try to align mid-term breaks with the Ramadan and Sacrifice holidays, and that in years when the calendar does not align, mid-term breaks could be scrapped. Tekin noted that under regulations, students must attend school for 180 working days.
In a statement on CNN Türk, the Minister said that teachers' two-month leave right and public holidays strain the 180-working-day calendar. He expressed that there were no problems in periods when mid-term breaks coincided with holiday vacations. He noted that the practice will continue this way.
