Assoc. Prof. Zeynep Tüfekçioğlu Korkmaz from Atlas University said Türkiye has around 700,000 Alzheimer's patients and that the number will rise as the population ages; she recommended consulting a specialist for symptoms such as difficulty finding one's way and repeating the same question.
Korkmaz said not every age-related forgetfulness means Alzheimer's; the determining factors are a decline from previous cognitive abilities and impairment of daily life. Early diagnosis preserves the patient's independence for longer.
