President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Grand National Assembly (TBMM) Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş, AKP spokesperson Ömer Çelik, and Communications Director Burhanettin Duran issued commemorative messages for Adnan Menderes, Fatin Rüştü Zorlu and Hasan Polatkan, who were executed after May 27, 1960.
The executions were carried out on 16 September 1961 on İmralı following the Yassıada trials after the 27 May 1960 coup. In his message Erdoğan used the phrase 'junta court.' Kurtulmuş, for his part, said democracy would be upheld with the belief that sovereignty belongs unconditionally to the nation.
