Türkiye and Iraq reach agreement on Sinjar: Turkish forces to hand over Bashiqa-Zilkan

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Zeydi met in New York and agreed on establishing state authority in Sinjar and removing the PKK from the region. Turkish forces will gradually hand over the Bashiqa-Zilkan base to Iraq.

In a joint statement issued after the leaders' meeting, it was announced that Turkish forces would hand over the Bashiqa-Zilkan base to the Iraqi Federal Government in line with a timeline determined by progress in Iraq's security practices. The statement also said there was consensus on accelerating joint strategic projects such as the Development Road Project.
