Following the resumption of work on a road planned to connect Dumlupınar Boulevard to the Niğde Motorway and passing through METU Forest, a joint statement signed by 41 METU constituent bodies claimed the project would disrupt the forest's ecological integrity.
The statement said the project would harm the ecological integrity of the METU forest and disregard the right to life of endemic species. The METU Physics Society reported 249 bird species in the forest, six endemic, and said there is no other sheltering area for them in Ankara. The societies called on students to show solidarity against the project.
